Lacey has her first anesthesia free dental cleaning by K9 Dental Services on February 29 2012 at 1015am(HST) at Cocojor.Will cost $150.00 for the cleaning and wellness check.
Lacey’s last Dental Cleaning was on January 25 2011 at VCA University Hospital with Dr John Kaya
It’s good we have it on hand in case she gets another UTI.She’s doing great other than the fact she’s had a pupper fit because I didn’t take her collar off Monday night and put in on her Tuesday morning so she gave a very bif pupper fit…she just started scratching her collar vigoursly to the point we thought she had had fleas on her..we checked…no fleas…After I took her collar off later in the morning and put it back on her in the afternoon she stopped her scratching fit..All the while she just knew that it wasn’t right that she had had her collar past Monday night..normally she has her collar on for 2 days then i take it off at night and place it back on the next morning…Such a smart girl!
From what I understand the price ranges from about $150 – 200 at the highest would be my guess and that includes a wellness check up and the dental cleaning.Also there is a vet that travels with the guy(scott blanchard who is the vet tech that does the cleanings)and his name is Dr Eugene Pei.There is also antibiotics that is given before the cleanings.Seems like most dogs do fine with the cleanings.Don’t have much more information at the moment but as time goes on & as Lacey gets her teeth cleaned we’ll give an update if we would recommend it.
I prefer that Lacey does not have antibiotics or anesthesia but I guess you can’t have it both ways unless you feed raw food full time.Having her have antibiotics before instead of after is definatly a preferance because if she has to take antibiotics after the cleaning such as at VCA it is almost a guarantee that she’d have some type of side effect but once every six months is not too bad.If your dog is sensitive to meds like Lacey is I’d recommend you bring a list of meds that your dog is sensitive to.I plan to do that for Lacey so they are aware of what she can’t have.
For those who are interested in anesthesia free dental cleaning for their dogs & live in Hawaii which by the way is also throughout the US(I think).The guy who does the dental cleaning has been doing so for 20 years in California and 5 years in Hawaii.At this time I don’t know how often he comes to Hawaii but for those who are in town the next dates for dental cleaning for your dog(s)is March 4th at Calvin & Susie or Feburary 29th at Cocojor.The guy(whose name I don’t know yet)has 100K cases under his belt that he’s done in the past 20 years so he’s very successful doing so.The lady you can contact here in Hawaii…her name is Donna and you can get in touch with her at 923-7692.We need to see what my upcoming schedule will be like before we can set up a day & time to call Donna back with more information.Am excited to see how Lacey Girl will respond and how well they can do the treatment.Check back for more info later
It’s right about that time when Lacey Girl needs to her teeth cleaned so I have K9 Dental Service & left a message for them to call me back so we can set up an appt whenever the next time they are in town.If it doesn’t go well next time I will speak to the vet about options so she doesn’t feel anything but also I’d have to be in the surgery room.From here on out I will make sure that all of her vet records are faxed over to our house fax so I know what the vet is doing each time,get an estimate and always be sure they do only as I ask and consent to.She will not go in the back without me for a weighin,for surgery,into the vet check up room without me and she will continue to not be vaccinated under any circumstances.I must be in the know
She’s continuing to do well after a small episode of scaredness earlier this morning but she has turned around for the better & is definatly back to her usual self!If there is anything she needs to work on besides a dental cleaning this year it is to help her get into an obediance class either this year or next year to help her not aggress at dogs who are minding their own business.Only thing I’d have to find a way on is how to override the vaccination requirement which I will look into later on

The reason I did not choose the first one was I could not find enough information to back up corn silk powder to help prevent utis.As for the rest of the ingredients I didn’t google it besides that cranberry is supposed to help prevent uti’s which we have tried in the past(type in lacey uti solid gold berry balance & you will find the blog).The reason I did not choose the third one was the same reason I didn’t choose the first though it was said to be successful
The one I did choose to try and have on hand in case Lace does get another UTI which does come about every so often,Genesis Resources Canine Urinary Tract Support,is because Uva Ursi has been used by Chinese for many years to treat UTI in the past,it has cranberry extract which also helps with UTI’s as well as stones,& Juniper Berry which is supposed to help with UTI’s.It also has chicken flavor to it though I doubt Lace would eat it & the recommended amount for a dog under 25 pounds is 1/2 tablet.Maybe even 1/4 tablet might be enough for a dog her size.How it will work we’ll never know unless Lace gets another UTI which hopefully won’t happen for a while
She ate her dinner well but last night I noticed that she didn’t attempt to play with her toys afterwards like she usually does.It just so happened that I was petting her & found that her vulva was red.The only thing different she’s been getting is a beef stick(in small pieces of course)that we had bought from the store.So we gave her 1/2 tsp of ACV placed in syringe & water & tried to put it down her throat but she put such a struggle that I am looking into something we can give in tablet form(holistically)instead of taking her into a regular vet for regular meds(antibiotics)which does help but almost always there’s another condition following it so to prevent that I try to use holistic as much as possible without resorting to actual meds from a regular vet unless holistically treating fails.She went into hiding but today she is much better.Still doing research as to which we will try but we need to have something on hand in case it happens that she does get a UIT and it does happen from time to time but not as often as before.

Lacey’s latest adventure was when she went to the drs office while mom and dad went to the dr and there were many people telling her she was cute..well one lady wanted to play with her but pup was not so welcoming because the lady had gloves on her hand so when the lady picked her up to carry her the poor thing was shaking….After we went down to Hawaii Kai all the poor thing did was go into her “whimpy whimp” routine where she would just whimper,whimper and go to the door.Thought she had to go pee but she didn’t.After we left Hawaii Kai she stopped.I think she felt insecure when the lady with the gloves picked her up.It was a new experience for her.
By the way Lace is doing great.She’s healthy and is ready to celebrate Christmas….
I haven’t fed Lace Halo’s in ages but just wanted other small dog owners who love to feed Halo’s know that there is a Small Breed out now and also a Lamb Version
