Lacey’s day

Posted by: akamine2525 on: November 23, 2009

Today Lacey was a barker from morning to night.Part of it was due to other dogs in the neighborhood barking.Others were when Aunty Betsy and Uncle Sherman came to check on their plants. We took Lacey outside after putting her leash and collar on to visit with Aunty betsy in the front yard.sure enough that’s what Lacey wanted. She just wanted to say hi to one of her favorite people.Lacey had her first interaction with a dog today. When we were outside we passed by the dog who was on the other side of the wall(our neighbor)and Lacey peaked inside the holes of the gate and looked for a few seconds. The other dog just looked at her also for a few seconds.Of course they sniffed the front of each other(through the open spots of the gated fence)then they went into play mode. There was a few growling from both dogs but then it was time to go back to the front.Lacey also got a rawhide that is flavored from Hartz.I knew that it was one of the healthier brands but I can’t say everything is within health reasoning.Although most of it is.There is no by products of any type in it but there is coloring in the rawhide.Otherwise it’s healthy. We went shopping tonight to get ready for thanksgiving cookings.Tomorrow I am going to make Lacey’s Pumpkin Patch Dog Biscuits for her Thanksgiving treat.Either Tuesday or Wednesday I will make her main meal for Thanksgiving.Aunty Betsy and Uncle Sherman are also going to be bringing over their two dogs.Mom wants to try snap a picture of all three dogs(Ours:Lacey maltipoo:maltese/toy poodle)Emi(Shiba Inu)and Mochi(Samoyed).Lacey is the youngest of all three.Lacey 8 months Emi is about 4-6 years old Mochi is about 2-3 years old.

Lacey Wellness Super5Mix Small breed update

Posted by: akamine2525 on: November 23, 2009

I am trying Lacey on 1 Tablespoon of Wellness to see how she does. While her bowels are not diarrhea it is on the soft side.I’d hate to take away a favorite food of hers if I can help it…If I mix it she gets soft bowels. If I give her 1/4 cup of Wellness she gets soft bowels(It’s still formed not like literally watered down bowels)Now I am trying combination of 1 T of Wellness + 1 T Solid Gold,1 T Wellness or 1 T Solid Gold..So far she hasn’t eaten since yesterday early morning so I can’t say if it will work or not but we’ll see.
Update:Lacey has ate.Her first bowel was good.the second time it was on the softer side.Yup,I will have to call Wellness today and see what they recommend trying for Lacey.Otherwise back to the drawing board we go.Can’t have soft bowels.I prefer firm instead of soft even through it’s not loose stools.

Lacey’s reaction to Wellness Super5mix Small Breed by itself

Posted by: akamine2525 on: November 22, 2009

When Lacey was given the Wellness Super5mix Small Breed by itself she liked it and quickly ate it up but one thing I noticed was her bowels were still soft.So I checked out the ingrediants on Solid Gold & Wellness Super5Mix Small Breed and the difference was the sweet potatoes. On Solid Gold her bowels were more on the firm side and with Solid Gold or even mixed together she gets soft bowels. My guess is she can’t have sweet potatoes in her dog food. The next sample Halos which should be coming this coming week also has sweet potatoes. If even trying Halos she does indeed get soft bowels then I will be assured that it’s the sweet potatoes she’s reacting to.The next one I will inquire after that Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul doesn’t have Sweet potatoes so we’ll see what her reaction will be.My guess it better but I can’t be sure till we sample it.

Lacey’s Wellness Attempt

Posted by: akamine2525 on: November 22, 2009

Today we got our free sample of Wellness. While Lacey did not warm up to right away she did warm up to it within a few minutes. She tried and ate.Found out that she loves it!Mixing the SG + Wellness=Success.Well she had soft bowels.I am going to try a combination over the next three months and see what she responds to do better
At first I was going to do something like this month by month but since the holidays are right around the corner I didn’t want any messy poop so I decided to give her SG then Wellness every other day. When she has SG in her bowl then in her bottle that she likes to carry around I will put Wellness and vice versa.
Still I decided to make SG her main kibble since her poop is much better than with Solid Gold + Wellness put together.

Lacey tries her very first wellness treat!

Posted by: akamine2525 on: November 21, 2009

This morning Lacey tried her very first WELLNESS WellBites Treat Chicken & Venison Recipe! She warmed up to it almost instantly.I’d say it was quicker than her inital reaction to SG.Her reaction to WELLNESS was about 2.5 seconds before she just gobbled it up and the SG took her about 3-5 seconds to warm up to the kibble.I think when we get the WELLNESS and Halo her favorites will go something like this if I am not mistaken:
1)Wellness
2)Solid Gold
3)Halos
Wet Food:Beneful
We found the Wellness WellBites at The Pet Spot in Ward Warehouse which also has her Wellness Super5Mix Small Breed.Though Kalihi Pets does have Wellness they don’t have the treats or her specific type.We also know that Natrually Pet has Solid Gold & Halos. At least they are all in town.

Lacey’s switch of water & her dog food

Posted by: akamine2525 on: November 20, 2009

As of yesterday November 18,2009,Lacey has been drinking bottled water.I went online in search of a easy way to stop her tearing stains under, around her eyes and mouth area. One of the things I have come up with besides using medicine such as angel eyes is that most water such as tap from the faucet is in most areas have a high php.Being from Hawaii the sea water does have high mineral in it.I switched her to bottled water since yesterday and the results have been amazing! In the past 48 hours she hasn’t had any stains around her eyes!Who knew that small things make a big difference!Lacey is also striving on Organic Dog Food. While she does eat it more at ease than Science Diet she still likes a variety of food. We’re waiting on samples from Halo & Wellness to see what other brand she likes.Thing is when we first got her we had her on IAMS and then we took her to the vet they gave us Science Diet and from then we started mixing it together. So now,she likes a variety of dry foods.Lacey also has more pep to play. Before she was more on the lazy side and only played up to about 15 minutes. After she went organic she can now play up to 25 minutes! She loves to play more so than before.Fur is shinier. What a change!

Also could be the cause of dried beet pulp in commercial dog food
PS.Organic dog food does not have dried beet pulp

Organic Dog Food Samples & Earthborn Dog Food Trial Package

Posted by: akamine2525 on: November 17, 2009

Today we requested to get samples of Halos & Wellness for Lacey. We also got Lacey a brand called Earthborn which is supposed to be grain free and Holistic..Thing about this brand is while it may be “recommended” I don’t see a lot of reviews on the products or testimonials on their website.Lacey also took longer to warm up to this brand where as the SG(Solid Gold) was a fairly quick response to the first attempt!
I always look at her responses and how fast she warms up to the food.We have some SG left and I am saving it to compare with the next two brands to see which one she warms up to quicker(wellness or halos. The Earthborn one you are feeding almost as much as you would with Science Diet. For a 5-20 pound dog you are looking at 1 cup to 1 1/4 cup of dog food.On Science Diet she was taking anywhere from 1/8 cup to 1/3 cup of dog food.So to me while it may be holistic, not highly review nor recommended by many dog owners you are feeding more as you would with any commercial dog food,I wouldn’t encourage Lacey to eat it every day.In fact,I’ll just leave it out and let her eat when she’s hungry or I just may temporarily place her back on commercial dog food if i see she doesn’t eat for as many as 3 days of the Earthborn dog food.

One thing I learned from organic dog feeding

Posted by: akamine2525 on: November 16, 2009

One thing I’ve learned from organic dog feeding is when you give your dog table food keep it to a small limit for the day.Not to give it a lot of table food because it will make the dog’s poop softer. One day(Saturday during the day) I gave Lacey the amount of table food I used to give her while she was on commercial dog food and her poop was firm, consistent yet slightly on the soft side on Sunday.Figuring it was the table food that did that I limited her to a small portion of table food for the day and the next day(Monday)it was back to usual.Good consistancy, firm. The other thing I learned is that if Lacey misses her dinner which for her is about 10pm or whenever she gets hungry and misses even one day I should give her 1/4 cup of organic dog food to make up for the previous day.Beneful I’ve increased her to 1/4 cup since I don’t put any dry food with it.I do still feed Beneful because it does help her to stay full, more calm and less begging. That’s the main purpose of feeding her Beneful once a day(Lunch).Breakfast is usually vienna sausage, lunch is Beneful, dinner is organic dog food.During the day mainly veggies, fruit and some meat.Organic dog treats and a few by products till it’s used up.Twice a week she gets fed eggs for snack & breakfast.

Lacey’s serving size for Solid Gold:Just a wee bit

Posted by: akamine2525 on: November 15, 2009

Tonight I measured and calculated how much Lacey needs for her Solid Gold dog food.It turns out that Lacey actually is taking in less from what it was with commercial dog food.I gave her 1/8 cup which is what she ate when she was on Science Diet & IAMS.Science Diet & IAMS was 1/8 cup to 1/4 cup. After she finished her Solid Gold I calculated it and she now eats 1 Tablespoon + 1 tsp=20 ml.It’s less by 10 ml which means her food will last us a while.I am guessing it’s probably going to be the same with her second organic food. This is off the subject but even when she took a bath I noticed that she was a lot calmer and still compared to when she was on commercial dog food.Could it be a coincidence? We’ll see next week.
