Dr Kaya called back and said that we could do 1/2 tablet(12.5 mg of 25 mg) every 12 hours or we could just stop it but the purpose of the antibiotic is that we don’t want any infection to start up in the gums. We’ll be keeping an close eye on her gums, teeth, tarter build up pretty much weekly so it’s defiantly something we’re going to monitor pretty much all the time till we find something that will work. We’ve been giving her dog biscuits those hard treats after she eats so we’ll see how this goes…

Likely Lacey had a side effect to ClinTabs
It is very likely that Lacey had a reaction to ClinTabs. There are several ways a person could tell. One is when she eats at least an 1/8 cup of any dry food she should poop a decent one by the following day.On certain can foods depending how much she eats it can be soft but easy to wash off,good/firm or slightly soft but not like diarrhea.Another way is if she eats 1/4 cup of dry/can it should be good/firm with possible very slight softness. Also she usually makes her poops anywhere between the first 5 minutes to the first 30 minutes of a walk.On ClinTabs/Clindamycin she had very pastey like poops and difficult to wash off & also straining quite a bit.Dr Lee Loy still didn’t call back but we’ll stop by VCA in the morning anyways as we’re heading to Manoa anyways.Meanwhile,we have not been giving her any ClinTabs.
This year we’re really going to be focusing on her teeth just trying different methods and see what works best prior to her next annual/healthwork in January 2012.As well as keeping her on a clean healthslate on limited grains(2,1,grain free).I don’t plan on changing her diet as far as grains go too much.We do use some can food with three grains but not often.
Lacey finally takes a bowel
So,since Lace came back from VCA on January 25th we’ve seen very pastely like bowels then the evening was good. However though her appetite is good, and drinking water on the 26th she made no bowels.Today, the 27th she did make some, pastey like but has been straining to make.So we called VCA who said Dr Kaya is not in today so Dr Lee Loy(another dr at VCA Lacey has seen before)will call us back. One of the common side effects Lacey has on most meds are diarrhea and so it’s difficult to put her on meds.
Lacey’s recovery from dental cleaning
Lacey is doing wonderfully with her recovery. She continues to remain active,is taking water, accepting can food though getting her to eat the can food with probiotics is not that simple but once she sees there is people food waiting for her she takes it with no problems! She’s running around the house, jumping, playing, continuing to do tricks for treats, comes for treats with prompting, taking her meds like a good girl, going on walks..Still whimpers/moans/cries every so often but defiantly getting better as the days go on..However she has not taken a bowel movement since the 25th so we’re keeping a close eye on that. She’s licking her front paws where the vet/vet tech shaved her legs so that they can put in the iv and whatnot. Her fur’s growing back quickly! She got a new leash and new id dog tag today. She’s a trooper and doing great!
Lacey’s Dental Cleaning January 25 2011
Today Lacey got her first dental..Overall she did good. She breathed on her own but after she woke up she was disoriented a bit. When we went to get her the vet tech placed her in my arms and she moaned/cried a bit then she was ok.She already recognized her name.Dr Kaya sent us home with OraVet Home Care kit but we are not going to use it.It’s like a gel medicated with medical ingredients from Pfizer Animal Health that you are to put on the dog’s gums once a week.Instead we will be using PetzLife Oral Gel along with daily usage nightly we’re going to try put the gel on a q-tip once a week and apply it to the gums to see if there’s any difference. If that does not work we’re looking into other products(natural dental products)such as a spray, gel, raw meaty bones or whatever else there may be.So far we’ve tried toothbrushing with dog toothpaste,we tried Jones Natural Chews which helped her to be able to crunch biscuit like treats however she doesn’t chew it daily, tried with the petzlife oral gel, dental chews…
Dr Kaya gave us some antibiotics for Lacey but with her past history on antibiotics w/ her UTI she developed yeast infections, staph and these were times we didn’t give probiotics so this time I called VCA to be sure that was correct. It was and so we picked up FloralZymes from Naturally Pet.We’re going to give 1/2 tsp with each meal for the time she’s taking antibitotics. We may just continue that if she does well.We try not to get additional supplements unless it’s needed.

The Antibiotic she was given is called ClinTabs 25 mg 1 tablet every 12 hours for 2 weeks straight on a full tummy. So that means she has to eat two meals a day which she’s not used to.She’s used to eating once a day but we are about to get a little more strict with her feeding schedule and cutting her back by half so that’s 1/16 cup a meal twice daily.
We also picked up a new bag of Orijen Adult(80-20),a bag of Acana Pacifica and a bag of Acana Wild Prairie. We still need to pick up a bag of Orijen Puppy,Orijen Reigonal Red and Orijen 6Fish(all 80-20) next time we go in a few months.
Lacey gets her 2nd Rabies Shot,January 8,2011
TOday Lace got her second rabies shot and weighed in at 7.4 pounds at Dr Kaya’s today for the second month in a row since starting Acana!Arrrrrooooo! Also upcoming for Lacey Girl is her first dental cleaning on the 25th of this month. We are to follow the same protocol as we did for spaying so no food after 9pm on the 24 th and no water per dr kaya’s orders. After surgery I always offer her can food for the first two days then give her dry since usually she takes to can more than dry.
