A trip to Natrually Pet!
On a trip to Natrually Pet recently we bought enough treats to value about $40 which should last a while.I try to look for the treats that’s at a good price but has a lot of treats since she goes through them fairly quickly. The more their is for the amount and price the more likely we pick it up(and of course as long as she eats it).
We picked up Sojo(Good Dog)Chicken Pot Pie Sojo(Good Dog) Apple Dumpling,Merricks Canned Food, and No Grainers.I’ve also wrote out a list of brands of dog food that Natrually Pet carries.Since I found out that Halo’s actually has less chicken than anticipated I am thinking of trying to switch to something else.At the same time, she hasn’t been eating much. Was told that Table Food could be the culprit. At first I ruled that out but now I will admit it could be but is it?I can’t say for sure because even though I have cut back drastically on the amount of table food I feed her she still doesn’t eat much but we’ll see if that’s really the culprit or she just doesn’t need to eat as much as before compared to when she was still growing. We’re slowly finishing up the Beneful as we have got one containor left and that will be the end of Beneful’s by products.
Sojo:
I have looked into the dry food as well including The Honest Kitchen. The food does look good and easy but honestly placing Lacey on Raw Food I don’t think that would work for her. However I may consider some parts of the Raw Food Diet to place her on such as veggies etc maybe like twice a week but to do completely raw I don’t think I’d be open to that unless it’s medically necessary.
Wellness might be coming out with a new flavor of canned food
Yes,it’s true our fellow readers. You read that right.Wellness may be coming out with a new idea for canned food.It sounds and looks delicious too.The only thing I advised Wellness is to take off certain features of their original idea. But what it is I won’t say but I promise that the trust and confidence I have in Wellness will not leave your pup disappointed!Although we can’t purchase the dry food for Lacey we love the Wellness canned food and treats.Perhaps eventually if Lacey likes the Wellness and Halo Canned foods I may ease her off the Beneful by Purina as it does have some by products but if possibly I’d like her to be on a fully natrual diet mixed with dry, canned food and of course some table food.If it could be done with Solid Gold Just a Wee Bit,Halo’s Spot’s Stew Wholesome Chicken, and Wellness canned food/treats as well as Halo’s Canned food/treats that’ll be perfect!Of course there’ll be other organic foods that we’ll use that is not in line with Wellness or Halo but it’s always the best quality of dog food.Like they say you pay the price for the good quality food or later you will use it on vet bills.Since we were one of the first 300 responders to the survey we’ll also be getting a $5 coupon for Wellness food in the mail within the next two months.
Lacey tries her very first wellness treat!
This morning Lacey tried her very first WELLNESS WellBites Treat Chicken & Venison Recipe! She warmed up to it almost instantly.I’d say it was quicker than her inital reaction to SG.Her reaction to WELLNESS was about 2.5 seconds before she just gobbled it up and the SG took her about 3-5 seconds to warm up to the kibble.I think when we get the WELLNESS and Halo her favorites will go something like this if I am not mistaken:
1)Wellness
2)Solid Gold
3)Halos
Wet Food:Beneful
We found the Wellness WellBites at The Pet Spot in Ward Warehouse which also has her Wellness Super5Mix Small Breed.Though Kalihi Pets does have Wellness they don’t have the treats or her specific type.We also know that Natrually Pet has Solid Gold & Halos. At least they are all in town.
One thing I learned from organic dog feeding
One thing I’ve learned from organic dog feeding is when you give your dog table food keep it to a small limit for the day.Not to give it a lot of table food because it will make the dog’s poop softer. One day(Saturday during the day) I gave Lacey the amount of table food I used to give her while she was on commercial dog food and her poop was firm, consistent yet slightly on the soft side on Sunday.Figuring it was the table food that did that I limited her to a small portion of table food for the day and the next day(Monday)it was back to usual.Good consistancy, firm. The other thing I learned is that if Lacey misses her dinner which for her is about 10pm or whenever she gets hungry and misses even one day I should give her 1/4 cup of organic dog food to make up for the previous day.Beneful I’ve increased her to 1/4 cup since I don’t put any dry food with it.I do still feed Beneful because it does help her to stay full, more calm and less begging. That’s the main purpose of feeding her Beneful once a day(Lunch).Breakfast is usually vienna sausage, lunch is Beneful, dinner is organic dog food.During the day mainly veggies, fruit and some meat.Organic dog treats and a few by products till it’s used up.Twice a week she gets fed eggs for snack & breakfast.
So long Science Diet & IAMS:You were good to us while it lasted….
Today Lacey embarks a new dry kibble. As the primary care giver of Lacey I wanted her to live long yet enjoy her life as a dog.So I researched many brands to see what is good and what is recommended. What to look at for nutrition.I even settled into prayer about it.The ones I was looking at were Canidae,Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul,Wellness, and Halos Spot Stew.We went to Natrually Pet which was in town and I saw many good brands except one brand had salt as a ingredient(Royal Canine).Instead between debating on Canidae, and Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul we bought a sample of Solid Gold.So happened that Lacey warmed up to the idea of trying a new kibble. She loves it.We still need one more dry brand of kibble.Hopefully similar to Solid Gold. She’ll also get Beneful too but no more Science Diet or IAMS!We are done and finished using by products as one of the main sources of dog food.Lacey does need variety though.Otherwise she will get bored with one brand.
Quick Note:I haven’t heard about Royal Canin when my dad asked me about it at Natrually Pet.The lady there recommended Royal Canin for a small dog like Lacey but I never heard of that brand before.I checked the ingredients and it was fairly good but there was salt and I knew that was a no-no.When I came home I looked it up and others say that it’s “good” but it’s not at the top of the line like Solid Gold. But what Lacey is on is good so we don’t have to worry.Likewise I am sure that she’ll do good with Wellness.
Lacey’s bowels are much better despite the fact she still gets table food and still has treats that has by products.Friday was her first attempt at Organic Dog Food.Throughout the whole day from Friday morning to midnight on Satuday she only made one bowel. Her urinating has also decreased by a lot too.Lacey’s doing really well on Organic Dog Food so far and we hope to eventually get her treats organic too after the ones with by products are done.We are considering Wellness as the second brand of dry dog food to alternate it with the Solid Gold something like every other week or every other day
Wet Food Beneful + Science Diet maltipoo meal measurement for maltipoo
Lacey does not like Beneful over IAMS.I tried to give her IAMS with Beneful on top but she wouldn’t touch it.I switched the IAMS back to the Science Diet + Beneful then she will eat it.Before Lacey was on Beneful she’d have some table food with her meal which was usually at dinner about 1/4 cup of dry food(Science Diet or IAMS)-she’d also beg more..With scoops of Beneful + 1/8 cup Science Diet that’s good enough to hold her for one day.She does get an attempt to try at dinner but she doesn’t even finish close to 1/8 cup of Science Diet. She may take a few bites but that’s about it.
