Wednesday April 20:Still trying to get Lacey Girl to eat her raw Chicken Drumstick.I do know that she is hungry because in the kitchen we have her dry dog food(Nature’s Variety Instinct Beef & Lamb,Acana Pacifica and a few trial bags in plastic bag on the floor) and she picked one up & started to drag it around telling me she’s hungry so I put up all the dry food so that in time which from what I’ve read is some dogs will hold out about 5 days before accepting….and just giving her the opportunity to eat several times a day or when she seems to be looking for food. She has been licking it though so that’s a small start…..
UPDATE!!!! It is now close to 1140pm at night & Lacey’s Raw Chicken Drumsticks has been out about an hour now…and she has went up to the plate to start licking the chicken..Soon you could see her trying to figure out how to get some of the skin off the meat..She did get a small portion off the skin & now I have put it away she’s now looking for more!LOL!Each time I tried to pick up her plate she’d paw at the plate as if to say “HEY!,What are you doing with my plate of meat????!!!”Truly is a joy to watch your dog eat what nature has given them to eat!Check back later for more updates!
April 21,2011:Lace is still getting used to the idea of raw chicken but she’s getting there.Tonight, once I learned that she will take to it easier if I have the meat on a towel for her she will take to the meat a lot better;she went over to the chicken and started to eat the skin of the chicken!Only con about her eating raw meat is her bowels but like anything else if she hasn’t been on it long she will have soft bowels..Good thing she stays in the house since it’s easier to clean her up..As time goes on and she gets used to raw meat she should get better in time..
April 22 2011:I have put Lacey’s chicken back in the freezer but I am continuously amazed at her “smell”…She has no “dog odor” to her at all and was bathed last Saturday..Usually by the middle of the week on kibble she will have just a little of dog odor but since she ate raw meat none at all. When you sniff her she has a very nice refreshing smell to her…she hardly got any treats or people food during this time..Even on freeze dried raw such as Stella & Chewy’s she never had this “refreshing” smell to her so I think it truly does make a difference when you add simple sugars/carbs to a dog’s diet personally. And one can only discover this if they are truly open to feeding Prey Model Raw..The results I see already makes me want to continue her on raw but defiantly have plans to take her off traditional dog food even from higher quality dry foods…I have calculated her amounts and she needs very little to the point where she’d get her nutrition throughout the month since she needs so little organs….so we’ll see….but defiantly plan to give her raw meat weekly…up to about 3 days a week of feedings at least….

Lacey attempts to try raw Chicken meat
So,now,we are experimenting with feeding Lacey raw meat. She does in fact have very little tarter build up but it’s a very very light yellow tarter color. She has been chewing Dental Bones from Ziwi Peak but has not been chewing it daily. She may chew it daily for awhile then she stops and goes back to it afterawhile.Other bones she just licks it because she has no interest in it.What we’re trying to do is find a way to cut back her dental cleanings…At VCA it runs us over $100 just for the cleaning not including OraVet,inducing anesthesia..At Pets In The City which I am considering on paying for myself is $72 without tax and no anesthesia next year if needed.
We gave her a very small piece of raw meat which we placed on a plate. At first she just looked at it as if to say”WHAT IS THIS???”then she started sniffing it,eventually taking it off the plate, licking it then dropped it…That was the first time…We’re gonna keep trying because if WE CAN get her to eat it(2 oz=1/4cup which is what she typically gets with dry or can food anyways)even twice a week to see if it helps her teeth then in the near future I may consider BARF as a staple diet for her depending how her teeth does.
Update:February 28 2011:Lacey did accept the piece of raw chicken once I combined it with shoyu chicken.I just pushed it closer to the shoyu chicken and she ate all the shoyu chicken &the piece of raw chicken meat.Tonight she went over to dog food bowl that has food in it and ate just one piece out of everything(1/4 cup) and walked away.Maybe she’s waiting for more raw meat??I will be posting more info on the BARF Diet soon so be sure to check back.
