Tonight Lacey had her 1st meal of “people” diet. She had and I measured it carefully to equal about 1/2 cup of food which is about how much a package of dry kibble would recommend.I usually feed anywhere between as little as 1/8 cup to as high as 1/2 cup per day in multiple meals(2 per day). After she eats her amount(typically about 1/4 cup)I give her bits and pieces of “table”food. After a few pieces she’s usually not begging after she eats her own “people” food.Lacey had 2 strips of chicken(from a McDonald’s salad w/no dressing since I never pour dressing on my salads),~4 pieces of lettuce,~4 slices of carrots,~4-6 diced cubed bread. In the end,she finished with about 1/4 cup intake and left about 1/4 cup to clean up.All in all,her eating amount never changed. In fact,if I remember correctly I think it’s the same amount she used to take in of dry food. Now when she’s hungry through the day she can eat her kibble in her water bottles.Of course she has snacks through the day and water as well that’s always available.
While some people may criticize me for feeding a dog people food I have to say as a owner it’s my responsibility to see that my dog eats and is at a good weight and to NOT show any “bones”but a healthy coat.As long as she is able to stay at a healthy weight and is eating well with some dry kibble every now and then that’s fine by me.As long as she eats that’s the main thing! In addition if you look carefully at the dry kibble ingredients it also uses “people” food such as chicken, turkey, carrots, broccoli, asparagus, beet pulp to name a few.
