We have written about looking for a holistic vet for Lacey in the past & Dr Basko has been at the top of the list I have actually considered for Lacey. I have heard many good reviews about Dr Basko & hope to try him sometime this year or next year for Lacey’s annual. She’s currently healthy with no health issues to report nor fleas of any sort but would like her to be checked out mainly inspite of her heart murmur. That’s one thing I want to keep an eye on though lately it’s been very stable as far as the severity of it being. We are delighted to say that Dr Basko will be practicing with Dr. Cristina Miliaresis DVM as of June 2011 according to Dr Basko’s website. As far as I know she is not a holistic vet nor does she have any negative reviews from owners or their pets. However he seems to be one of most knowledgeable vets within the state of Hawaii and has practiced for over 20 plus years and has been interested in holistic care since 1971 & although he does practice conventional meds he uses holistic approach first. It has been a hope & faith that he will eventually find somewhere on the island of Oahu but I am just glad it’s not down waianae side as I know my parents will be very reluctant to drive that far for a vet appt.
The cons about Dr Basko is that he does promote vaccinations for puppies where as in the future I hope he does not “Push” or try to convince me to vaccinate a dog because that’s one thing I am standing firm on is no vaccinations for a dog under 10 pounds ever.I have absolutely no plans to own a bigger dog than 10 pounds full grown.the other thing is that he’s all the way in Hawaii Kai but I suppose it could have been worse. He does do house calls so that’s helpful. A couple times a year to Hawaii Kai is doable
I don’t know when we will schedule an appt but if not this year it will be next year to check on her teeth & a general check up which would be either in December 2011 or sometime in January 2012.I suppose if she has health issues we’d probably make an appt a lot sooner than anticipated but so far all is going well. She will need her teeth checked to see if she should get a dental cleaning. We also have a good idea who we will use for anesthesia free dental cleaning goes.K9 Dental Service..They have dealt with aggressive dogs before and only had to turn away the worst cases. That leaves me hope that they can handle Lacey. She is not that aggressive and based on their experiences handling the worst cases I know she will be in good hands.
Edit:It would also be wise of us to ask for copies of the paperwork each time she goes to Dr Basko so in case of emergency we have the information to give to Dr Kaya as necessary.
For emergencies we will use Dr Kaya from VCA
