I am absolutely stumped with Lacey. You know, she does so well on Halo’s..Her bowels are consistent and firm….there’s dehydrated fruits & veggies that she’ll eat…but when you give her primal(she doesn’t like the vinegar..see previous blogs),stella & chewy beef(doesn’t like the flavor.good bowels…lamb causes soft bowels but loves the flavor)…solid gold may give her soft bowels(currently looking into it by giving halo’s one day, earthborn another, solid gold just a wee bit another..will know more by next weekend),doesn’t really care for the honest kitchen dehydrated raw food…i’d really like to place her on another brand of food even raw but the way she reacts to all of them and the brands available down in hawaii is so limited that we just can’t do it(raw)..again the carobs, amount of fish play factors into the type of food she eats, beet pulp, ingredient list should have good variety(see previous blogs)..so what will we try next?right now,i don’t have a clue..i will look on dogster to see what other brands are a possibility to try…maybe a sample of a different choice of earthborn could be an option?maybe trying barking at the moon from solid gold???for a while i will look into how she does on solid gold just a wee bit if it is giving her soft bowels & look into other brands…

Primal is now out….
If you look further back in our posts for December you will find that Lacey had a UTI & one of the home remedies I tried was giving her Apple Cider Vinegar in her water.Back then she wouldn’t take it.Today my dad & I were talking about it and he mentioned it could be something in it that she does not like so I checked out the ingredients and right in front of my eyes I saw the “culprit” Apple Cider Vinegar! And now it is clear why she is refusing Primal. She was happy to receive her Halo’s today and she does accept the dehydrated raw that is inside her Halo’s. So,we are giving the rest of the Primal to our neighbor’s dog who will happily gulp up any type of raw food in front of him or her. Now,we are trying dehydrated raw food from the honest kitchen. We tried it on their website to get samples costing about $1 each(Verve,Force & Preference) to see how Lacey will do.I was thinking if she does well on it we could supplement it in w/her dry food(Halo’s,Solid Gold & Earthborn). While many say to rehydrate it Lacey does well without any rehydration. Many say don’t feed raw with kibble but Lacey shows no signs of difficulty with her bowels on it mixed together. So,it’s either she’ll accept it or will be on dry food/can food for life with supplemental vitamins in her senior years under Dr Kaya’s guidance & possibly switching brands of dry food(not Halo’s though.Halo’s is a keeper for the life of Lacey & any future dogs I may own considering I am looking at future toy poodles)However,in the future of owning toy poodles,I plan on introducing the dogs to Halo’s Spot’s Stew & also various forms of raw(frozen, freeze dried, dehydrated)at a very young age.Pretty much as soon as I get the dog which will be many many far years from now
Dry Food,Raw Food, and can food…the list never seems to end…
So on dry food food Lacey obviously can’t have corn,by products, artificial colors/syrups/dyes etc..it can’t have beet/beet pulp if possible due to small breeds tear stains, she can’t have a lot of fish in any formula due to sensitivity causing soft bowels, she can’t have a lot of carob even though it’s not chocolate because it causes her to have soft bowels..kibble has to be small or she won’t touch it,ingredient list should have a good variety of meat, fruit, veggies…those with limited ingredients such as Natural Balance Can Food she will refuse it all…absolute no food with apple cider vinegar she will refuse it all…
Addiction is out because one formula has brewer’s yeast, other reasons are “limited ingredients” not enough variety for her taste but the dry food might be ok.
Sojo is out because some formulas contain carob and she’s got sensitive issues with too much carob in her diet.
Something like The Honest Kitchen Preference
We’re going to see if Nature’s Variety freeze dried is still being sold at Naturally Pet.I have seen the dry food, can food & treats but not the freeze dried since the NV Recall. If they don’t have that we’ll have to go with Primal Pet since more stores in town have it than Nature’s Variety.I’d like to use them because it’s still freeze dried till she will accept it more on a regular basis.I will look into a few others but we may end up getting one of these brands Sojo Complete Dog Food,Addiction La Porchetta or Salmon Bleu or Viva La Vension of the dry foods that they have,The Honest Kitchen Verve or Thrive or Preference,Primal(any flavor),Nature’s Variety Freeze Dried Lamb or Vension-depending how Lacey does on the lamb maybe we could try the frozen lamb if Naturally Pet still sells NV Raw Food…If they do we might even try Frozen Bison,Lamb and maybe Rabbit from Nature’s Variety. It’s really what her tummy can handle & how her stools are that will help me decide what to give her. After the end of March we’ll look for a new brand for her.Depending how she reacts to the freeze dried then the frozen we might even try the kibble but the can food is out since she tried both brands & didn’t like it for the can food anyways..I am also considering a Solid Gold Grain Free Barking at the moon but if she likes the NV freeze dried/frozen/maybe kibble we might be able to try one of the grain free kibbles they have to offer….We’ll have to ask around for other dog owner’s opinions before any decisions are made on that…
