So,when we first got Lacey we went to the store to buy her some puppy food.At the time of adoption she was only 16 weeks old and barely any fur!We got the paperwork and all.We picked out IAMS puppy food but Lacey couldn’t couldn’t eat it as well as she wanted to..It gave her soft bowels but she did eat it..When we made an appointment which I found through the web & was actually convinced that VCA Animal Hospital is the place to go after reading a review from a animal owner who said she took the dog to the Kailua branch and was so happy with the vet care she switched to the University branch.That did it..I set up an appt for Lacey and we’ve been seeing Dr Kaya ever since last July.We came out with a package of all the usual Heartguard,Hill’s Science Diet Small Bites…Oddly,Lacey liked the SD & only could eat IAMS after about a month to month and a half later..While she was on SD & IAMS we came across some health issues of roundworms,heartworms etc which can be found in the blogs..In November 2009:I,being the one who cares for her majority of the time,decided to switch her to something healthier than SD & IAMS.I looked online and found some better brands after I found out what can of garbage my girl was eating off of.Needless to say for a few months till very recently(end of December 2009) we finished all of our by products & Beneful meals.Needless to say,we’ll never buy by products from anywhere ever again.
We found Solid Gold Just a Wee Bit after I looked online for stores close by and food that was healthy.One of our main stores close by Naturally Pet had samples of Solid Gold Just a Wee Bit so we tried it and she loved it.Good results except with the issue of a UTI(diagnosed December 28,2009)–See blogs for more info.During that time,I don’t remember how I found out about Halo’s but it was after we tried Wellness Super5Mix(soft bowels as a result.Could be her tummy couldn’t handle it at the time but we never tried it again..YET to see if her tummy can handle it now…),and we tried Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul which she didn’t care for a lot..Once Halo was introduced to her that is a different story.She’ll start off her dry food with Halo’s being the first meal and usually before she gets tired of it she usually eats Halo’s but when she wants more after several days she always goes back to Halo’s Spot’s Stew!Lacey has only been on Halo’s since December ~15 2009 and she’s doing great eating it as long as she’s hungry.Meanwhile,we are looking at a second dry food.We’ve also got her on can dog food when she wants it.We do have it available waiting in the freezer packaged according to how much she eats per day.Right now,we are trying to introduce her to Raw dehydrated/freeze dried/frozen raw dog food to place more variety & choices.But once she turns 7 we’ll always have a package of Halo’s for her to eat every so often but mostly at that time it’ll be mostly premade raw.
