My neighbor’s dog would rather have Halo’s can food over Wellness. It will eat Wellness but if the dog has an option it would rather have Halo’s over Wellness can food.Even the Wellness dry food it doesn’t care for it a lot but will eat it.However, the dog would rather have raw over dry and maybe even Halo’s can.One thing it will not get is Lacey’s Halo’s dry food. That is reserved for Lacey only & only her mouth should be hungry for Halo’s!

Halo’s Spot’s Stew Review
“Halo’s Spot’s Stew is highly recommended to any dog or cat owners! My dog,Lacey(a Maltese/Toy Poodle) is one of the most finicky eaters you can find .As soon as I gave her a sample of Halo’s she just wolfed it down in a matter of seconds.Halo’s kibble is small and easy to eat.My dog really enjoys Halo’s.She eats more of Halo’s dry dog food than anything else!My dog isn’t really a fan of the Halo Canned Dog Food but she loves the dry food! She eats Halo’s more consistently than any other brand of dog food we’ve tried. Thanks Halo’s.Keep up the good work. We’ll be buying your products often.”
I try to look for the dog food companies that don’t use any artificial colorings/flavors,no garlic, beet pup(dried),no onions and if possible no meals. If a human cannot consume the food then neither should a animal.I’m with Halo’s & Dr.Donna Spector on this one.Although meat can be lower on the ingrediants list I plan to give Lacey at least one brand with meat being rendered or trying something like Sojo
Lacey is doing really well with her UTI.She’s still taking her meds but refuses to open her mouth yet she always seems to take it(just trying to give us a hard time). She’s still eating majority of canned food but I am slowly giving her some dry food occasionally but not a lot.One brand we’ll always keep is Halo’s.Not sure what brand we’ll switch her Solid Gold Just a Wee Bit to but I will find something for her.
Lacey:UTI Day 4 & Day 5
Day 4 January 1 2010:Still doing well. Some cries but not as much as other days.Much more energy and appetite is a lot better. Also taking in a lot more water.
Day 5 January 2 2010:Doing better..Still cries some but very little…Appetite is good.Lots of energy..Takes meds..Doesn’t go near ma and pa’s bedroom except one time..
Lacey WILL eat fish but…
there has to be more meat flavor than fish. For an ex, part of a Wellness canned food ingredients list:Deboned Chicken, Chicken Broth, Chicken Liver, Whitefish, Ground Barley, Sweet Potatoes, Carrots, Flaxseed…She will eat but if it’s something like a list of ingredients such as(also wellness):Ocean Whitefish, Fish Broth, Ground Barley, Sweet Potatoes, Carrots(she won’t touch it)..
So the ingredients HAS to be more meaty with chicken, beef, duck overruling the fish ingredients otherwise she’s less likely to eat it..something for me to keep in mind and thought I’d post it for future references…
Lacey’s very first time out…
Today Lacey had her very first time out..Aunty Betsy was outside and Lacey already went for a walk.It was already dinner time and I had started to eat my meal already which means I don’t usually take her out when I eat..As a result,Lacey kept barking and barking..I’ve told her to be quiet many times but she kept on barking..I gave her the water spray about 5 or 6 times..Still didn’t work..By that time,I was at the end of my rope and told her if you keep on barking I am going to spray you again with the spray..Do you want that?..She kept barking and so I told her “Bark one more time and I am going to give you spanking”.She did but instead of giving her spanking I took her in for a time out in my mom’s room with the light on and the door shut.I left her for five minutes.During this time, she was barking(out of hurt feelings)and scratching at my mom’s door.I paid no attention but kept a watch on the clock..After it was 5 minutes I opened the door and gave her a little talk. She came out and almost instantly barked again.I said “Lacey,Do you want to go for a time out again?”and she stopped barking.Other times she barked because other dogs were barking which was ok but she needs to remember who the boss is…
Lacey’s update on tear stains & bottled water
Lacey has been on bottled water for almost 2 months now and there is a lot of improvement in her tear stains. My mom says that she only has to clean Lacey’s eyes maybe twice a week at the most but not like before when she used to get tap water. So,one of the ways we can limit our small dogs’ tear staining could be with bottled water.I am sure that there are many other ways to limit tear staining with other remedies and products. So far this one seems to work for us.
Lacey:UTI Day 3-December 31 2009
Lacey is doing very well today. When she woke up early this morning she was awake with her eyes open and laying down but there were no cries from her at all this morning. She was full of pep today with lots of energy to run around the house with. Her cries was mostly in the afternoon. Her appetite is so much better compared to yesterday. She even takes her own meds.Still doesn’t want to open her mouth but once the pill is in her mouth she chews it and swallows without a doubt of a struggle! My mom says she has never seen a dog willing to take their meds!
Lacey’s first attempt to actually swallow her medicine!
Today Lacey took her medicine all by herself for the very first time. After a few times putting the pill in her mouth, holding her mouth & tickling her throat..As soon as my dad was ready to give her the medicine she actually jumped up at my dad very excited to take her medicine. When my dad slipped the pill into her mouth she actually chewed the pil(chunk, chunk)and swallowed the pill without us holding her mouth shut!I was sooo impressed with her!For more of an update on how Lacey’s doing otherwise check out our next blog:Lacey’s UTI day 3
Lacey continues her wet food diet for the time being
So we went to the vet not really for a check up but to get some shots aka vaccinations..Little did we know that Dr Kaya didn’t want to do anything until her UTI was cleared up..We saw a different vet who worked at VCA.She is very friendly and does seem knowledgeable but when I asked her as to what type of food should I feed Lacey dry or wet her reply was dry or wet depending how much water she’s taking in.I also asked my Aunty but she told me her dogs never had UTI before.Still she said she’d think dry or wet or combination would be ok.So,I asked on Dogster for other owner’s help as to what to do not to mention this lady vet we saw wasn’t our main vet,Dr Kaya.(Lacey weighs about 7.9 pounds. We think she may be 9 pounds for adult weight)Many owners mention that canned food is the way to go but do brush her teeth about twice a week.We also tried Merrick’s canned food and Lacey loves it.It smells delicious enough for me to eat it!It looks really soupy with chunks of meat inside and more like Halo’s thickness of can food but still not as thick as Wellness where it’s really packed together and compressed of ingrediants. Also the interesting thing about Wellness is the foods are good don’t get me wrong but they could certainly expand their ingrediants of canned food.Perhaps if it was slightly more soupy other dogs and cats may be more open to eating it.That rule seems to work for Lacey very well.Wellness and Halo are both very good brands overall.I like Halo because they have some dehydrated veggies and herbs in the dry food.Wellness is very small when it comes to kibble and that’s a plus..
Lacey update:UTI Infection Day 2
Well, overall Lacey is doing a lot better. Her cries are to a minimal. When she woke up this morning she was crying quite a lot and only after I laid down with her did her cries stop. It’s so hard not to really be able to do anything and see your pup in pain and all you can do is comfort them with your attention and love.Sometimes it seems that’s not enough…She’s taking her medicine…Her appetite is a little better but she’s eating very little at a time.still it’s better than what it was.Another blog following this will explain more about her eating.
