The Pet Spot & Kalihi Pet Store shopping on a Sunday!
On Sunday we stopped by the pet spot to find her a crate & carrier.We picked up a Primal Pet Treat & a carrier,doggie poop bags, &water bottle for dogs for her.At Kalihi Pet she came inside w/us and got a new bag of Earthborn to mix.So far,no new health problems with SG Just a Wee Bit.Seems to be helping switching proteins every meal.Her itching has decreased by half if not more.I am almost certain she was showing a reaction to “Chicken” since she mostly had “Chicken” as a protein source from the time she was 4 months old.I have no clue what her breeder gave her.
Feburary 17 2010:Shopping around for Lacey!
Today was a day of shopping for Lacey…We went to Naturally Pet to get more Stella & Chewy’s for Lacey.But when we got there(Monday)I didn’t realize that I had bought the one for cats and not DOGS!It was my understanding from the Stella & Chewy’s website that it’s for dogs.I never knew they made it for cats too!Good thing I checked before we opened it!We went back & got one that’s ok for dogs from Stella & Chewy’s.
We also went to True Friends then to the Pet Spot to get some boots for Lacey from Guardian Gear but as I suspected it wasn’t going to work because of the size then the velcro she managed to get it off.We ended up returning both to True Friends & The Pet Spot and got the Pawz Dog Boots.
We went back to True Friends & picked up Pawz Dog Boots.Measured her paw and it was 1 1/4″.After her spaying she didn’t use it.We still have it & will be saving it for the future.

Today we went to Whole Foods to pick up Lacey’s Halo’s Spot’s Stew Wholesome Chicken.We also picked up some can food.Originally I was going to pick up canned food from the Halo’s line(Salmon & Beef) but I only saw the salmon so we ended up picking up the Salmon (from Halo) & 1 Whitefish & Sweet Potato & 1 Turkey & Sweet Potato(Wellness).Wellness canned food is about 12.5 oz for $5.69 at Whole Foods.As a comparison,The Pet Spot sells Wellness Canned Food for almost half that price(~$2.30).I also picked up Earth’s Best Baby Food 2 containers of Chicken & Sweet Potato.From Safeway we got Lacey pig skin that is flavored on the inside with sweet potato. http://hartz.com/Hartz_Products/Dog_Products/Treats_and_Chews/3270099335_hartz_oinkies_pig_skin_twists_treats_for_dogs.aspx
It is actually better than the previous one I got her which is chicken flavored on the outside and bacon on the inside also from Hartz.

This one had artificial coloring but the pig skin doesn’t.Some people suggest giving your dog bullysticks but the history behind is disgusting and I don’t think I’d like Lacey eating something like that.Of course to her it’s nothing.After all of Lacey’s Beneful runs out if she likes the canned foods I’ve picked I am planning on discontinuing the Beneful since it does have by products and I am trying to get her on as natural as possible.

Finding Halo’s Spot’s Stew Wholesome Chicken in Hawaii
Finding a store that carries Halo’s products in Hawaii especially in town can be pretty frustrating when it comes down to looking for the item itself.We went to several places and called several places including following the names of the stores on Halo’s Store Locator.We tried Natrually Pet but they only have for cats not dogs.We tried Kalihi Pet but they only had the cheaper end of the Holistic/organic dry food such as Natrual Choice by Nutro.They also stopped carrying Lacey’s No Grainers even though they do have the chocolate flavored treats which Lacey can’t have carob because it makes her poop soft.That’s the reason for stopping her Cookie Treats with Carob.If you look further in the blogs I believe it was called Cookie Yumms!We tried The Pet Spot but they only carry the Wellness brands and she can’t have the dry food because of soft bowels though she can have the canned food and treats.We tried calling The Vitamine Shop that’s listed on Halo’s store locator but they don’t sell it so our only and last hope was the Whole Food Store in Kaimuki.They have it!Otherwise if they didn’t we’d defiantly have to look into other options for her.And all the other places in Hawaii are out of our way like down in Kapolei which is too far for us to drive just to get Halo’s!Halo’s should have more distributors in town!
Lacey tries Wellness canned dog food:Chicken & Sweet Potatoes
Yesterday we went to the Pet Spot in Ward Warehouse to try get Lacey canned food from Wellness.I wanted to find out is it really the sweet potato and that most of the foods are too rich for her or was it just that specific recipe(Super5Mix for Small Breeds).I got her Chicken & Sweet Potato but before I left the house in the morning I got her organic food ready for her(abt 3 Tablespoons)in case she was hungry.Indeed she was because when I got back the dog food was not close together and so I knew that she ate.She didn’t eat a lot since she probably knew I was coming home and waiting for the good food.I gave her the Chicken & Sweet Potato to see how her tummy reacted.Sure enough her bowel was still on the soft side but not as much as with the dry food from Wellness.My aunty thought it was the table food that did it and I told her no it’s not and she asks how do you know that?I said I just know.As the main person who cares for Lacey I tend to know her reactions to certain things,food,what makes her bark etc more than most people.And I knew that the food I gave her wouldn’t make her bowel soft.Even with organic dog food(Solid Gold) + table food wouldn’t make her bowels too much on the soft side.The second time she made a bowel it was firm and I knew that was from her Solid Gold.She enjoyed the Chicken & Sweet Potato and I do think it’s the Sweet Potato in most of the Wellness foods she can’t have besides the treats.But just to be sure on that next month if we still haven’t found a second brand for her I am going to try the grain free canned dog food from Wellness to see her reaction.
A note on Halo:While Halo is a good reccomended brand for organic dog food they are not efficient when it comes to customer service.I had requested a sample of their adult dog food almost a week ago and it hasn’t came in the mail.I won’t be giving them a call back.We won’t be buying their food either.

Lacey tries her very first wellness treat!
This morning Lacey tried her very first WELLNESS WellBites Treat Chicken & Venison Recipe!She warmed up to it almost instantly.I’d say it was quicker than her inital reaction to SG.Her reaction to WELLNESS was about 2.5 seconds before she just gobbled it up and the SG took her about 3-5 seconds to warm up to the kibble.I think when we get the WELLNESS and Halo her favorites will go something like this if I am not mistaken:
1)Wellness
2)Solid Gold
3)Halos
