Lacey’s Annual August 7 2010

Lacey’s annual went very well.Today there was no heart murmur!Yea!!!!Best news ever!No vaginitis and no licking.Only thing was there’s some tarter build up so we’re going to get her the PetzLife Oral Spray..Many owners swear by it and we’ve been looking into it but since we didn’t need it I didn’t say anything about it.Dr Kaya recommended Leba III but I try to get her items that’s all natural. We mentioned that we found fleas on Lacey and got her flea & tick spray along with flea shampoo.Dr Kaya mentioned really there’s no need for flea shampoo as it’s medicated…Also that fleas are supposed to be killed within 36 hours. Also took a fecal exam.In December Lacey will get her rabies shot with a 2 month time frame which will allow her to go to the mainland for three years. After 2 rabies shots she gets a rabies test which will take a month before we get results. All in all it was an excellent visit!!

A Lacey Medical Update

I am happy & excited to say that although we got Dr Kaya’s message late that our pup,Lacey,is free from giardia & heartworms after she had her blood drawn last month.Dr Kaya mentioned the last time we saw him back in November that they wanted to draw her blood to be sure that the giardia and worms didn’t return.Much to our blessings she’s free from these diseases! Now,it’s been about a month since November 13 2009 since I started Lacey on organic dog food.Hoping her medical conditions and expenses continue to get less as the years go on in her lifetime!

Our fear for Lacey

A few nights ago we had a scare for dear pup.We have noticed lately that she has been licking her vulva area and it’s looking black. At first we thought it could be several things:1)Urniary tract infection 2)Yeast Infection 3)Dirt 4)Heat.When we cleaned it with water and on a piece of cardboard we took hydrogen peroxide to see if it would sizzle(the black stuff) to see if it was blood. My mom was a lab tech so she knows about this stuff.Anyways it didn’t sizzle which meant that it was not blood. We think it’s just dirt but if it does not come out clean on Saturday when we give Lacey a bath and there’s no improvement with her licking we are considering on calling Dr Kaya so he can check it out.For now, she’s great.Full of pep but not as active as before. We think she’s going to be one of the maltipoos that calm down as she gets older.I do think that Lacey does understand most of what we are telling her.People say dogs don’t understand what we tell them but I believe that there are a few exceptions to that rule.Honestly!

Lacey’s free from Giardia and No returns of Worms reports Dr Kaya from VCA Animal Hospital!

Dr John Kaya has reported that Lacey does not have any signs of Giardia and no returns of worms!I told Lacey that she did it and is free from worms,no giardia and no meds in a excited tone and she jumped up,gave hi5′s,rolled over and even gave her a piece of chips to celebrate her health status is better than ever!

Lacey-stool sample to VCA on Saturday for giardia

On Saturday we will be taking Lacey’s stool sample to VCA to see if she is clear from giardia.Am hoping she is.Her appetite seems to be a lot better and we are so grateful that the medicine didn’t have any effects on her!

Dr Kaya tells us “Lacey has Giardia”

Today Dr Kaya called and told us our pup Lacey is FREEĀ  from worms and it came back NEGATIVE!Best news I heard today but he went on and told us that she has Giardia.Usually he gives the dog 2 medicines. One we tried to give her before but she wouldn’t eat which was for the worms. So we have to give her Metronidazole once a day for 5 days.We are going to ask VCA how else can we give it to her if she does not take it on her own with food.I told Lacey she needs to take medicine again and she gave me a look (with her head tilted slightly to one side and gave me a 3 second look)as if to say”Again?I have to take medicine again?”I am not sure of the dosage but I will find out when my parents pick it up.I am also saving a piece of chicken for her as a back up way to get her to take her medicine.

Lacey gets her worms checked to see if she’s cleared from worms

Today we took Lacy’s stool to the vet at VCA Animal Hospital to see if our girl is cleared from worms(hookworms and roundworms which she took Pyrantel and was dewormed twice). The telephone person,Jackie, said that it would take about 2 days to see if she’s cleared from it and that they will call us with the results. They are also going to check for Giardia.According to Jackie,at VCA,it’s going around a lot in dogs lately. So if you have any dogs be sure to keep up with your vaccinations for your pets. It’s important to keep them happy and healthy so they can have a lot of time to spend with you!

Lacey’s worm medicine and update

About a month and a half ago we were told by Dr John Kaya from VCA Hospital that Lacey had worms. While shw was on another medicine for her worms, but because of the side effects we switched her to Pyrantel which worked better with no side effects. She had her second dosage earlier this month but we need to bring in her stool sample next week to Dr Kaya at VCA to be sure that she is cleared from hookworms and roundworms.

VCA Animal Hospital,Stool Check, and worm medicine

Today we went to pick up some Science Diet Small Bites Puppy Food for Lacey from VCA Animal Hospital located in Manoa where Dr Kaya is located at and we also asked the office when do we have to bring in her stool sample. We were told in 2 weeks after her last dosage.
